Anzer honey is the most famous of all Turkish honeys, said to be, of course, the best honey in the world.
Original Anzer Honey from Anzer Plateau (Rize)
What is Anzer honey?
A polifloral honey harvested on the Anzer Plateau, Turkey.
Anzer means “Fertile zone, place with full of meadow” in Mingrelian language.
The Anzer Plateau, aka Ballıköy Plateau, is located 35 km south-west of the İkizdere district of Rize, one of the major cities in the Black Sea region of Turkey. It divides into lower Anzer(Çiçekliköy) and upper Anzer (Ballıköy). Its altitude varies between 2100-3000 meters from the sea level. The weather is rainy throughout the year, the temperature is usually low and there are very few sunny days per year. The whole summer season looks just like spring in the Mediterranean climate.
Anzer Honey is the most expensive honey in the world and famous with its curative powers. It contains the highest valuable ingredients coming from 500 different plant varieties in Anzer Plateau. (80 of these different flowers are endemic and only grows on the plateau Anzer – Rize – Black Sea Region Turkey)
In this region, more than 400 kinds of flowers were found in the researches conducted by British and German botanists, 82 of which are grown only in this region.
In Anzer, depending on the climate conditions, honey is taken from the beehives in a process called milking (harvesting) in the first or second week of August. The amount of honey production varies depending on weather conditions and early mowing of meadows. There have been years when there was very little or not at all.
In Anzer, trees do not grow, so Anzer honey contains only pollen of endemic flowers that grow on Anzer plateau.
Pollen analysis is performed to see if Anzer honey is genuine Anzer honey.
Anzer honey is not supplied with sugar or any other additives.
Anzerbalı is milked without heat treatment.
Since temperatures above 40 ° C neutralize the enzymes and pollen in the honey, cold milking is performed.
Anzer honey is not one of the normal honey used for breakfast.
Anzer honey is a honey that is analyzed and registered at Hacettepe University Ankara.
Anzer honey is quality honey that has been used since the Ottoman Empire.

• Treats and prevents liver damage.
The 2009 study Anzer honey prevents N-ethylmaleimide-induced liver damage in rats., by Korkmaz A et al. from the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Hacettepe University, Beytepe Campus, Ankara, Turkey, proved exactly what the title of the study states.
In the study Anzer honey treatment reversed all the changes in glutathione level, as well as histopathological alterations, normally induced by N-ethylmaleimide-induced liver injury in rats.
• Protects the stomach against increased vascular permeability due to alcohol ingestion.
Another study, Protective effect of Anzer honey against ethanol-induced increased vascular permeability in the rat stomach, used Anzer honey and gave it to rats before administration of ethanol. “The incidence and severity of gastric mucosal congestion were significantly reduced in the honey+ethanol group when compared to the ethanol group. These results indicate that Anzer honey is able to protect the stomach of the rat against ethanol-induced increased vascular permeability, which may be correlated with the ascorbic acid content.”
